Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), Pub. L. No. 116-136, signed into law by the President on March 27th, 2020, included relief to institutions and students for costs associated with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) has allocated funds to Beauty Academy of South Florida. At least fifty percent (50%) of the approved emergency funds must be used to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care) (Emergency Grants). See CARES Act § 18004(c).
Determination of Eligible Recipients
To be considered for an Emergency Grant, a student must meet the following criteria established by the Institution:
Experienced a coronavirus-related disruption to campus operations. This means you would have enrolled at Beauty Academy of South Florida before March 24th, the day the Institution began temporary distance education. Students who were enrolled exclusively in an online program after March 24th, 2020, are not eligible for emergency financial aid grants.
You must be eligible to receive Title IV funds and have a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Institution. Students enrolled in shorter training courses that do not participate in Title IV will not be eligible for the emergency financial aid grants.
You must be a student who is actively enrolled and maintained satisfactory academic progress (SAP) on-campus during the time of coronavirus-related disruptions to campus operations.
You must have incurred, or expect to incur, expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19 (such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care). You are not eligible for the emergency financial aid grants if you have not incurred, and do not expect to incur, such expenses.
Determination of Grant Amounts
The Institution took the total amount of emergency funds allocated to students ($174,382.00) under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and divided it by the number of eligible Title IV Students (210) to determine how much each student will receive. Based on this formula, each student is eligible for an emergency financial aid grant of $830.39. There will be a remainder of $0.10 of emergency financial aid grants added to the check of the final recipient of these emergency grants, so that all of the allocated student funds may be used.
